A NEW WAY OF COMMUNICATING FET RESEARCH22nd July 2019
ByAxon project is committed to scientific communication and society's engagement with science. Therefore, we have proposed a novel way of interacting with the public through an interactive poster. The poster, which is permanent at the entrance of the buildings of the project's partners, intends to communicate in an attractive way the aims of our project, as well as provide contact information for interested public.
In the photos, they are our partners Arturo and Vicente (IMDEA) and Denis and Riccardo (SISSA). The poster is also available at the building halls of GREYC, Hospital of Paraplegics of Toledo, as well as at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels.
BYAXON PARTICIPATES IN FUTURE TECH WEEK3rd September 2019
Future Tech Week is an initiative of the European Innovation Council Pathfinder in order to provide a snapshot of what is currently brewing in Europe's tech sphere and the science that creates tomorrow's technologies.
The project ByAxon will participate with a a face-to-face open-lab activity. "Connect the neuron" will be hosted by the coordinator IMDEA Nanociencia and ICMM-CSIC. Scientists from both institutions will provide to people from all ages an insight to the scientific research and project outputs of our project ByAxon.
The event is free and open to all public. Register to attend now.
BYAXON AT THE NATIONAL MEETING OF THE SPANISH SOCIETY OF NEUROSCIENCE10th September 2019
Last week, partners from SESCAM -Francisco Ankor González and Elisa López- plus partners from CSIC -Ana Domínguez and M. Concepción Serrano- attended the biannual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience (SENC) to present their poster entitled "Metallic nanoelectrodes as biocompatible neural interfaces", being co-authors of the work partners from IMDEA (B. Rodilla, A. Arché, R. Miranda, T. González, J. Camarero, L. Pérez).
The 18th Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience took place in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) from September 4th to 6th, 2019. It has been attended by about 500 clinicians, researchers and students.
II REVIEW MEETING: BYAXON IS HALF WAY THROUGH5th February 2019
ByAxon's Consortium gathered for the half-time review in Brussels. We thank to the reviewers and the project officer for very productive discussions for our next half way ahead.
The scientists from the ByAxon project have been interviewed by the FETFX team as part of International Women’s Day and give their views about gender balance in FET* projects. The scientists have mused about the theme #BalanceforBetter and how gender diversity have help them in their academic projects.
One thing that stands out about the ByAxon project is that five out of six principal investigators, i.e. leaders of this STEM project in their institution, are women. Even though the overall gender balance is similar to other EU projects, the number of women leaders is above the average. The full interview can be read in the website of FETFX.
FETFX, or EFFECT, is a project funded by the HORIZON 2020 FET-Open Programme with the aim of enhancing the visibility and impact of FET research. EFFECT will accomplish this by strengthening the involvement in the FET world of researchers, policy makers, industrial players, the media and the public, via fresh, impact-driven communication materials and engaging community-building actions. The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 FET Programme under grant agreement No. 824753.

BYAXON IN THE PUBS - PINT OF SCIENCE 201922nd May 2019
The project ByAxon has been the star at the "Tech me out" sessions of Pint of Science in Spain. Mª Concepción Serrano (ICMM-CSIC) and Lucas Pérez (IMDEA Nanociencia) have participated this Wednesday 22nd of May on two different meetings in the cities of Madrid and Toledo, respectively. In both cases, the pubs helding the event had a full house, about 150 attendees in total. Our researchers Serrano and Pérez demonstrated their excellent skills in science communication and in turn, the public responded with a prolific questions session.
Pint of Science was an initiative of two researchers at Imperial College (London) that quickly reached the category of Festival in UK in 2013. From that year on, the Festival has been held in an increasing number of cities around the globe. This year 2019, over 300 cities from 24 countries have participated in Pint of Science.
